Outdoor Level 10/30/2022
My focus this week was to select a reference image and develop terrain inspired by it. I chose an image of yosemite valley. Apart from liking the aesthetic, I thought the thin valley would be useful for guiding the player to the end of the level and that the river would make for an interesting feature for the player to explore around. I sculpted the terrain with a combination of the sculpt brush, noise brush, and erosion brush. I also made a landscape material by using landscape layer blends to combine multiple textures into a single channel. I also used a grass node to automatically generate grass foliage and researched a method for adding macro variation to reduce tiling. I think the grass and sand look good, but I want to revisit the stone texture used on the mountains.
